Born in the village. Berezovka, Vinnytsia region From 1921 he studied at the Krakow Academy of Arts (with V. Yarotsky), in 1928 he graduated from the Ukrainian Studio of Plastic Arts in Prague (with S. Mako). From 1928 he lived and worked in Paris, where he became one of the central figures in artistic life. The Parisian professor Sh. Künstler wrote about the artist: “His name is known to the largest collectors in the world (they are proud of the acquired Khmelyuk's canvases). His works are displayed in museums in Lucerne, London and Stockholm. We are grateful to Ambroise Vollard, who introduced the creator to the Parisian art world. " Despite the post-war financial crisis, the French government bought the master's works. Among the admirers of the master's work were outstanding collectors: A. Vollard, S. Shukin. Published three collections of poems in Prague (1923 - 1928). He was actively involved in exhibitions in famous European galleries. In 1933 - 1936 exhibitions were held in England, Italy and Switzerland. Since 1943 he constantly exhibited works at the Durand-Ruel gallery, which organized exhibitions for him in Paris, New York and others. Author of landscapes, portraits and still lifes. Presented at Lviv KG, Museum of Modern Art in Paris, Oxford University Gallery, museums in London, New York, Philadelphia, Munich, Toronto, Stockholm, Lucerne, etc.
