Born in the village. Vasilyevka, Poltava province. In 1894 - 1898 he studied at the Kiev drawing school under N. Murashko and N. Pimonenko, from 1898 - at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under V. Serov, in 1901 he received a small silver medal, in 1903 - the title of a non-class artist. From 1903 he continued his art education in the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts under I. Repin, V. Savinsky, P. Chistyakov. In 1911 he received the title of artist. From 1898 he took part in exhibitions MUZhVZ, Academy of Arts, etc. In 1912 - 1913 he was in Italy. From 1918 he lived in the village. Vasilyevka. In the 1910s he painted for the St. Petersburg magazines "Argus", "Sun of Russia", "Niva", "Ogonyok". During the First World War, being at the front, he performed numerous drawings and sketches. He became famous as a master of portrait and everyday life. Paintings are kept in the Poltava State Art Museum, Kharkov Art Museum, the Museum of the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg and many others.
